William (Bill) Edward Card passed away at home September 12, 2025.
He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 13, 1932, to Frank Irving Card and Pearl (Johnson) Card.
William served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1955, achieved a bachelor's degree from
Adrian College in Michigan and married Elinda Ellen (Poorman) Card on September 21, 1958, and began teaching English in 1959. They purchased a cabin on Spring Creek in 1965, where his family spent every summer from the end of one school year to the beginning of the next.
He retired from teaching in1987, when he and Elinda moved permanently to Spring Creek.
William was the long-time caretaker of homes in Spring Creek valley. He also worked at Gunnison Airport for a period. He was an avid fisherman, went cross-country skiing with his wife and children, joined a Jeep 4-wheeling group with a 1954 Willy's and loved John Wayne movies.
He is survived by his wife, Elinda, four children; Jennifer Tomsic, Nathan Card, Heidi Card and Kiersten J. Mayer; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, one niece, one nephew and two great-nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 pm on October 4, 2025, at the Gunnison Elks Lodge.
